Job Title/Grade: Head of Performance Analysis – Grade 9
Reporting to: Director of Strategy & Planning
Responsible for: Business Intelligence Analysts (x2)
Role of Planning, Performance & Assurance (PPA) at LSBU
PPA performs the following institutional functions and processes:
-Co-ordinates the annual strategic planning process (including risk management and internal audit co-ordination);
– Supports the Executive in strategic decision making through the provision of data and insight;
– Delivers a performance management framework and the provision of performance management data;
– Oversees the external return process with the view to improving accuracy and optimising LSBU reputational improvement e.g. league tables and the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF)
– Delivers analysis of corporate datasets with the view to performance improvement;
– Benchmarks against competitors and the sector overall;
– Delivers core management information for staff across the institution through business intelligence visualisation software;
– Leads data quality initiatives and drives improvements in institutional data quality;
– Supports where required; institutional step change projects.
The overall purpose of the role:
To support the Director of Strategy and Planning in the provision of management information and insight through reporting and analysis. The insight provided will be used to assist staff across the University to better understand performance and the drivers of performance. This data will provide performance management information for staff at all levels of the University from the Board to course/module leaders.
Lead a team of data analysts that will provide management reporting and data that will include (but not limited to); teaching, research, market, HR and finance data as well as competitor analysis and benchmarking.
Through the oversight of all external returns, the role holder will undertake league table and other reputational and funding dependent metrics related publications. The role will also coordinate the institutional approach to the Graduate Outcomes (GO) Survey and National Student Survey (NSS).
Main activities and responsibilities:
A. Lead a small team of analysts to deliver insight relating to benchmarking, external reputation and institutional performance insight and market trends;
B. To ensure the provision of data and meaningful analysis to provide insight to inform institutional strategy, planning process and risk management;
C. Oversee the maintenance of documentation relating to planning processes, risk management and internal audit recommendations;
D. Through the use of BI visualisation software manage the scope and design of reports and dashboards to be accessed across the University;
E. Provide strategic oversight, programme management and coordination of externally conducted data collections relating to student employment outcomes and student feedback;
F. Oversee the maintenance of documentation that details publication schedules of data and reports and the intended audiences and purpose of such information;
G. Produce accurate and timely performance information for stakeholders across the University to assist decision making to improve performance;
H. To manage the collation, cleansing, analysis, and quality assurance processes in relation to external returns and appropriate documentation that details linkages between returns;
I. Oversee institutional data quality initiatives;
J. Represent the Director of Strategy & Planning at meetings and events when required;
K. To support other projects as required by the Director of Strategy and Planning.
