Job Title: Professor of Optometry

Pay Point : Spot 60,000 to £80,000
The postholder will lead on the development and contribute to delivery of the BSc Optometry/MOptom course whilst developing further their research portfolio through the iBEST Research Institute. Submission to future REF assessments is expected along with leading on the development of curriculum to underpin the University’s investment in a new STEM facility.
Principal Accountabilities
• Lead on the development of a new BSc Optometry/MOptom degree course and contribute to its delivery
• Lead development of the University’s curriculum in areas of Life Sciences relevant to the postholder’s subject expertise and the University’s ambitions in this area
• Undertake a formal role in the strategic development and management within the School and Faculty
• Maintain a sustained record of research outputs at levels of international excellence and with world-leading impact
• Support a significant level of successful PGR completions on the basis of excellent student experience and effective engagement with University policy and practice.
• Lead and deliver on successful collaborations with other research teams/institutions demonstrating significant positive impact on UoB profile (using the RCUK framework)
• Demonstrate a sustained record of consistently developing other researchers to the production of recognised impacts
• Provide pro-active leadership of review/development of the curriculum or teaching/assessment methodologies or the management of teaching and a sustained contribution to the delivery of teaching in own subject area
• Engage effectively with local, national and international partners to deliver significant impact for UoB

Knowledge
| Seminal contribution to knowledge and understanding within the academic and/or professional community, with consistent international-level research standing achieved and clear evidence of impact
Personal experience in the successful development of an BSc Optometry/ MOptom degree through approval process by the General Optical Council
Highly developed knowledge and understanding of the research environment that constitutes Optometry
National/ International standing in an area of Optometry
| Experience of leading research assessment submissions (REF or equivalent)
Track record of output in the form of books, articles in refereed journals or other outputs appropriate to discipline supported by evidence of contextualising published scholarship in evidence of their research quality
