The School of Engineering at London South Bank University is internationally recognised and was the founding discipline of the university in 1892. The School is currently building on its strengths, particularly our 45th ranking nationally by research intensity in the last Research Excellence Framework assessment, and looking to recruit academic staff that have the potential to be leaders in their academic field. We have previously invested heavily in early to mid career academics and are looking to continue this approach to complement our research strengths. The School is currently in the planning stage for a potential new building, are developing an Innovation Centre at Croydon to enhance our industry collaboration as well as significant opportunities in supporting staff led spin-outs.
This recruitment round we are looking for multiple early or mid career academics that broadly align in the area of Computer Science (Industry 4.0). This role requires an advanced understanding of industrial cyber-physical systems and Industry 4.0, as well as skills in artificial intelligence and machine learning. Candidates should be driven to succeed and are motivated to enhance the School of Engineering’s research and enterprise as well as a positive approach to teaching. Our computer science area is relatively new and opportunities exist for incoming staff to define the future strategy of the activity. A strength in this area has been forging collaborations with other areas of the school.

Our School provides a supportive environment where academics have the freedom to carry out high risk research, transfer knowledge to research-informed teaching and develop industrial impact. New staff have initial reduced workloads and we discuss start-up needs to help establish our staff in their independent research careers. The School has a relatively low hierarchy, is ideas led and provides a flexible working environment that, for example, supports many of staff that may have young families.
