As part of the rapidly developing Degree Apprenticeship landscape, WMG is seeking to appoint an Apprenticeship Tutor for its new Health and Wellbeing Science and Technology (HaWSaT) Degree Apprenticeship due to be launched in Autumn 2018, aimed at healthcare practitioners working for the NHS or in private/public sector organisations. You will work with our academic team and client organisations to develop the work-based learning elements of the programme, and to provide pastoral, academic and work-related support to students throughout their studies.
With a background of supporting work-based learning activity, you will have significant experience of working in Further or Higher Education and with employers across a number of different sectors. A high level of self-motivation, coupled with a confident approach to negotiation and relationship management are essential, together with an organised approach to all aspects of the programme, from apprentice recruitment and monitoring of individual learners, to overall programme reporting requirements.
Reporting to the Apprenticeship Director for WMG, but working closely with Professor Caroline Meyer in the Institute of Digital Healthcare (a partnership between the NHS, WMG and Warwick Medical School, which aims to improve people’s health and wellbeing through the development, evaluation and use of innovative digital technologies and services), this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development of this new role and to have a direct and personal impact on individual learners.

Job Purpose
To be a part of the team in WMG developing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate Degree Apprenticeships. To work with the programme teams (client relationship managers and academic leads) to ensure work-based elements of the degree apprenticeships are well integrated into the programmes developed and offered. To work with those companies and organisations enrolling participants on Degree Apprenticeships to ensure that students are able to fulfil the vocational elements of the apprenticeship. To work with the organisations on the development of individual learning plans for the apprentices, to monitor the development of the apprentices against these plans with the work place mentors and academic teams. To ensure that students maintain appropriate evidence and that both informal and contractual ongoing reporting is completed. To support the personal development of the apprentices and teach on elements of the programmes or support for the programmes as required. To prepare, inspect and develop placements for non-apprentice students on Health and Wellbeing Science Programme.
Duties and Responsibilities
- To work with academic teams, organisations (including workplace supervisors), client relationship manager and programme manager to consider and understand and develop work-based elements (including learning and assessment) within the overall framework of the proposed programme.
- To visit the organisations with the relationship manager and discuss with them the intended cohort and the organisation’s plans for recruitment, the vocational, skills and behaviour elements of the programme.
- To support employers develop their plans for recruitment, admissions, work-based learning and the knowledge, skills and behaviour elements of the programme.
- To undertake the initial training needs analysis and ensure that identification of Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is made, where appropriate.
- To work with employers and academic staff to develop Individual Learning Plans (ILP) and to monitor apprentices progress offering support and challenge to learners in the construction and updating of their learning plan.
- To act as the first point of contact for apprentices.
- To provide pastoral, academic and work-related support to apprentices.
- To coordinate communication between employers, departmental academic and administrative programme team and central university team – from programme conception onwards.
- To signpost apprentices to departmental and central support services where appropriate.
- To work with the programme team to analyse data and produce reports.
- To provide the first point of contact for managers and mentors in the workplace, keeping them informed of learner progress and confirming student progression and status.
- To manage and undertake the tripartite review in conjunction with the employer.
- To ensure that the employer is providing time, support and resource to the apprentice as appropriate and as set out in commitment statement.
- To work with academic teams and apprenticeship leads in the organisations to ensure that individual or cohort issues are identified in a timely way.
- To contribute to the delivery of workshops and seminars as required.
- To support apprentice recruitment processes.
- To contribute to the quality assurance and enhancement of the programme.
- To ensure apprenticeships are delivered in compliance with the relevant University Regulations, as well as confidentiality and data protection policies.
- To keep up to date with the legal and administrative requirements concerning Apprenticeships and the Apprenticeship levy, with regional and national skills agendas and with any other regulatory frameworks and standards both internal to the university or external that impact on this work.
- To support the programme team with their work-based learning research and practice.
- To attend faculty, departmental and programme level Apprenticeship meetings.
- To co-ordinate and deliver (with input from academic colleagues) continual professional development for work-based tutors.
- To teach on the Personal and Professional Development Modules in the (campus-based) concentrated teaching week of each block of the Health and Wellbeing Sciences Programme. Teaching includes lectures, seminars, workshops, group work and tutorials.
- To attend meetings of the assessment group and contribute to the assessment of personal and professional development in respect of workplace based learning.
- To convene and chair the staff student liaison committee for the Health and Wellbeing Sciences programme.
- To identify work placements and ensure that they comply with the necessary standards, approve and monitor them.Working EnvironmentAt WMG we are committed to supporting staff to achieve their potential.
