The role
The role of Dean of Warwick Medical School at the University of Warwick is a strategic senior position, responsible for providing clear and inspirational academic leadership to enable WMS to become a globally leading medical school. You will build on the School’s reputation for educational excellence and further strengthen its excellent research environment through the delivery of the established and evolving strategic plan. You will seek and foster new opportunities for strategic development that complement and strengthen our brand. You will be respected for the breadth of your clinical and academic credentials and for your ability to inspire, support, nurture and enable people at every level to be the best that they can. You will set high standards for yourself and for others and continue to invest in a culture of academic and professional development within a positive, inclusive and diverse community.
As a senior leader of the University of Warwick, you will be a member of the Steering Committee. This involves providing opinion, advice and guidance to the University Executive Board; contributing to, and sharing ownership of, key strategic and organisational decisions; and ensuring delivery of Warwick’s agendas and plans. You will also be a member of University Senate and Council. You will report to the Provost, who undertakes a formal, annual performance review against objectives under the University’s Performance and Development Review process.
As Dean of Warwick Medical School, you will be supported by a senior team that includes Pro-Deans for education and research, the academic Heads of Division for Biomedical Sciences, Clinical Trials and Health Sciences, the Chief Operating Officer and the Chief Finance Officer. As one of the largest academic business units in the University, WMS has its own substantial team of professional support colleagues, with access to central services as appropriate and in line with the Warwick structure. The School’s dedicated team includes operational support for educational programmes and research; governance and quality monitoring and reporting; health and safety support; student recruitment, marketing and communications; technical services support; human resources management; financial planning and accounting; information technology and digital services support; and research and innovation.
