With a growing reputation for research which underpins learning and teaching, Northumbria enjoys buoyant international recruitment, strong international student satisfaction and high performing overseas collaborations.
In 2018 we opened our campus in Amsterdam, offering Masters’ programmes, undergraduate opportunities for our UK students and building research collaborations. We have created a highly successful partnership with the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (AUAS) who support and add value to our academic programmes. Together we have created a Joint Research Strategy and Doctoral programme and seek to grow and develop our partnership yet further.
We have a fantastic future ahead of us and the Amsterdam Campus is a critical factor in the achievement of our ambitious University Vision for 2025.
During the start-up phase we created a strong foundation and infrastructure and now seek to appoint a Director who will be charged with leading the campus through the next stage of growth. Partnership working is crucial to this role and the Director will build on the strengths of our relationship with AUAS, both in teaching and research, grow and develop our Joint degree programme , build our undergraduate opportunities through additional years of study and student exchange, and steer us through the Dutch regulatory landscape to secure the ability to sponsor visas required international students and maximise the opportunities of our presence in Europe.
You will work collaboratively with colleagues based in the Netherlands, Newcastle and London to provide leadership for the delivery of academic programmes on campus. You will ensure academic quality standards are achieved and a consistently high level of support is provided to students. On behalf of Northumbria University, you will also ensure the smooth operation of the Amsterdam Campus with regard to physical, financial and technological resources.
To be successful in this academic leadership role you will be able to foster effective and collaborative relationships at a senior level with internal and external stakeholders in order to shape, support and drive forward strategies and plans. You will have a successful record of leadership and management, and ideally subject expertise in one of the academic discipline areas of Northumbria University Amsterdam. In addition, a thorough understanding of the Dutch Higher Education system and associated issues is essential.
If you have the flexibility to live and work predominantly in Amsterdam and speak fluent Dutch and English, we can offer an attractive reward package, a strong commitment to people development and the opportunity to work in a dynamic, modern and supportive academic environment. A successful candidate at the appropriate level may also be considered for the title of Professor through the University’s Academic Promotions Scheme.
