Reporting to the Head of Finance, the successful candidate will lead a sub-team also comprising a Management Accountant (fully qualified position) and an Assistant Management Accountant (AAT qualified) supporting the Faculty of Social Sciences. The Departmental Services team is primarily engaged in management accounting and Finance business partnering, and the successful candidate will have a portfolio of Departments which they are responsible for supporting directly, as well as others indirectly via the Management Accountant. You and your reports will liaise directly with senior University management (including the Chair of faculty and Faculty Director of Administration), Heads of Departments and other stakeholders and assist academic departments to deliver their financial and strategic objectives through provision of financial advice and accurate and timely management information and analysis. The role is critical to planning, control and decision-making within the Faculty, specifically in the deployment of University resources and optimisation of income.
Working alongside the Finance Managers for the other Faculties, the role is responsible for preparation of quarterly forecasts and annually five year plans for their Departmental portfolio, monitoring financial performance and explaining variances. The post holder acts as an advisor on financial matters for their Departmental portfolio, including discussing and influencing performance, preparing business cases for new activities, advising on compliance with Financial Regulations and disseminating financial management best practice. They will also take the lead in the financial aspects of strategy development across the Faculty. About You
The successful candidate, who will come with an honours degree or equivalent, will draw on technical expertise gained in obtaining a professional accounting qualification. You should have broad experience within a finance function (including a working knowledge of tax), be a good communicator and have experience of working with non-finance professionals. Management experience would be ideal.
With the ability to address problems and identify solutions independently, the successful post holder will demonstrate the ability to undertake operational aspects of the role such as quarterly reporting, planning & forecasting, and the critical evaluation of new business opportunities. This will necessarily involve modelling & analysis skills using Excel. Candidates should evidence experience of management accounting and finance business partnering, using their up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and finance systems.
The appointed candidate will be required to work from the University of Warwick campus for a minimum of three set days per week on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The hybrid working model could be subject to change.
