The role of Head of School in Chemistry and Biosciences is an excellent opportunity to lead the development of a recently formed multidisciplinary school within the Faculty of Life Sciences. This is an important leadership role, with a focus on bringing together two highly complementary fields of science, to break down silos and facilitate both research and teaching across this vital discipline interface. Key to this role is a track record of leadership, people management and inspiring excellence in all academic activities through team development.
The Head of School will provide academic and strategic leadership, leading and managing staff within the school and developing a culture of supportive and collaborative working. A vital aspect of the role is ensuring that the School of Chemistry and Biosciences continues to develop, grow and integrate its programmes, playing a key role in supporting the Faculty to deliver the University strategy.
This senior leadership role will work collaboratively across the Faculty, contributing to Faculty level decision making, providing strategic direction, identifying and leading on priorities, ensuring that governance structures, processes and resources are in place.
The Head of School is responsible to the Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences for the organisation and general conduct of the School, including delivery within the budget.
The Faculty of Life Sciences fully supports the University’s vision of creating a diverse and inclusive culture. We are proud to have been awarded University of the Year for Social Inclusion 2020 by The Sunday Times and to be ranked first in the English Social Mobility Index 2021 by the Higher Education Policy Institute (HEPI). We welcome and encourage job applications from people of all backgrounds. We particularly welcome disabled, Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic and LGBT+ and non-binary candidates. We are open to discussing the potential to work flexibly and exploring what is reasonably possible for the role to be successful.
