About the job and department
Reporting to the Finance Manager and having an Assistant Management Accountant reporting into this post, the successful candidate will provide accurate and timely management information and analysis to senior University management, Heads of Departments and other stakeholders in order to aid planning, control and decision-making, specifically in the deployment of University resources and maximisation of income. The Departmental Services team is primarily engaged in management accounting and Finance business partnering, and so the successful candidate will have a portfolio of Departments which they are responsible for supporting.
The post is responsible for preparation of quarterly forecasts and annually five year plans for their Departmental portfolio, monitoring financial performance and explaining variances. The postholder acts as an advisor on financial matters for their Departmental portfolio, including attending meetings with their allocated departments to discuss and influence performance, preparing business cases for new activities, advising on compliance with Financial Regulations and disseminating financial management best practice.
What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?
The successful candidate, who will come with an honours degree or equivalent, will draw on expertise gained in obtaining a professional accounting qualification. It would be beneficial if the appointed candidate had recent experience of supporting a University department with management reporting and forecasting, however, candidates from any background with relevant experience will be considered.
With the ability to address problems and identify solutions independently, the successful post holder will demonstrate the ability to undertake operational aspects of the role such as quarterly reporting, meeting deadlines, and modelling and analysis using Excel. Candidates should evidence experience of management accounting, and of planning and forecasting, using their up-to-date knowledge of accounting standards and finance systems.
The appointed candidate will be required to work from the University of Warwick campus for a minimum of three set days per week on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The hybrid working model could be subject to change.
