About the Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies
The Centre for Interdisciplinary Methodologies (CIM) is a world-class interdisciplinary research centre. Our mission is to investigate how methods and methodical practices drive interdisciplinary research, and how interdisciplinary research drives methodological innovation. In both research and education, we proactively engage with pressing contemporary concerns with new methodological thinking. We understand impact as being about making interventions, whether in policy, public understanding or bringing about change.
Our research and teaching bridges the three faculties at the University of Warwick – Arts, Social Sciences and Science, Engineering and Medicine – and develops the transformative potential to be found at the intersections of disciplines across the whole of the University.
Our current research strategy is organised around three intersecting priorities:
- The Future of Knowledge – including fields such as AI, computing, data analytics, interfaces, cybersecurity, reproducibility, complexity, infrastructures, platforms, algorithms
- Democratising Information and Participation – including fields such as digital media and culture, governance, policy, digital health and human rights, the environment, science and technology, ecology, society.
- Making Methods Matter – including, among others, simulation and modelling, situational analytics, data visualisation, participatory action research, software development, design, creative and interpretive methods. We have a special interest in developing inclusive, situated and contextually aware methods.
Our focus on these priorities, as they twist into and cut across each other, enables us to respond to the urgent challenges of today’s world, including addressing the dynamics of unequal relations between the Global North and South. They inform our research themes and projects as well as our current and future plans for education and are designed to enable us to have an impact at all scales, from the local to the global. The postholder is expected to contribute to and help mobilise these priorities and ensure the achievement of the Centre’s strategic goals in research, public engagement and impact, and education.
At CIM, we are committed to continuously improving our efforts in building and sustaining an inclusive and equitable working and learning environment for students and all staff. We believe that every member of our team enriches our diversity by exposing us to a broad range of ways of understanding the world. We welcome candidates from under-represented groups, including from the Global South.
